theobroma cacao

Why we use this:Cocoa butter is an excellent moisturizer for skin and hair. It is high in beneficial fatty acids, which form a protective barrier over skin to hold in moisture. It is also rich in natural plant compounds called phytochemicals, which improve blood flow to the skin. Cocoa butter can help heal dry, chapped skin, and contains some natural UV protectors.

Cocoa butter comes from the cacao bean, which is found in pods growing on the cacao tree. The cocoa pod is a large, gourd-shaped fruit. Inside the pod are 30 to 40 cocoa seeds. After these seeds are dried, roasted, and pressed, the vegetable fat is extracted from the beans. This fat is what we know as cocoa butter. The leftover material can be ground down to become cocoa powder.
